The expansion joint is an elastomeric device that supports the relative movement between two estructural elements in a bridge or road. Its mains functions are:
- To allow the free movement of the boards, supporting the loads transmitted.
- To give continuity to the road, supporting the load of traffic
- To avoid noises, impacts and vibrations.
- To provide an adequate sealing and to allow water evacuation.
Expansion joints are made by an internal steel frame, designed to avoid the deformation of the joint and to allow a smooth transition between boards under any expansion conditions, at the same time reducing to the maximum the loads generated in the elastomer and that are transmitted to the fixing bolts and board.
